Continuation of Pre-Production Planning and Arrangments with Changes - Caitlin Hooson

Message from Caitlin:

Equipment:

Because we were unable to borrow equipment from the college because there wasn't enough for everyone to take home during half term, I was able to borrow a digital camera, tripod,  buy coloured gels of the colour needed for the mood we were trying to represent and hire 4 lights we are going to use.

Dates and Times:

Because our actor Ben was unable to make any of the 3 days we originally chose we have decided to film all day Saturday 26th because this means that we have the whole day too film and try and get all the footage done so that we don't have to come back another day and something may change and be different and make continuity errors, which we would like to minimise as much as possible.

Actors Clothes:

We think our characters clothes should be as simple as possible because we would like to perceive that our character lives in the same clothes for a long period of time, lives in the same chair, does the same things day in, day out, so we don't need anything too straight and tidy.
Long Sleeved T-shirt or plain T-shirt and Jeans, simple everyday clothes.

Props:

Arm chair
Tray with plate and cup
glass of water on the side
TV on a table
Jumper on the side
DVDs
Pills
Gaming Device (not yet decided)
Bathroom - toilet to flush pills down

Sound - Caitlin and Charlie

We have been looking at sound in thriller movies such as Saw, The Orphan and The Grudge. we like the soundtrack in the introduction to Saw because  creates a very eerie atmosphere and makes the audience wonder whats is happening or about to happen. The music is played over establishing shots and really gives you the feel that in the film something bad going to happen, just by showing some scary shots with scary music played over the top, i felt this was a simple but effective way to draw people into this thriller.

In the beginning sequences of thrillers nothing really happens however it gives little hints of the plot by using eerie non diegetic music with the use of film. This helps make the audience wonder what is the importance of specific characters shown in the opening sequence. By using sound bridges and non diegetic music that relates to what is shown on the film, this will make the audience feel connected and want to know more about the character/s shown, also by using establishing shots to the plot will make people wonder the relevance of these places and things to the rest of the thriller, to achieve this we could connect both characters and establishing shots with sound bridges to illustrate to the audience that the two are connected in some way and really important to the rest of the film, even if the audience isn't sure how.

Health and Safety (risk assessment) - Caitlin and Charlie

> Bathroom, wet floor could occur, to prevent this check the floor before any filming takes place.
> TV wires, people could trip over this, ensure that people are aware of this possibly.
> Drinking Water and Food must be kept away from filming equipment and off the floor so that they don't get knocked over and cause damage.
> Lighting - we need to ensure that everyone knows when lights are going to be turned on and off so that we don't blind anyone or people fall over because that they can't see anything because the lights have been switched off.
> Tray of food must be known so people don't step in it and make a mess of Charlies house.

Our Synopsis of our thriller opening - Caitlin and Charlie

Trapped by his own mind in the incarceration of the twelve story flat.
Misunderstood!

Based on a true story, starring Benjamin Stoner and Charlie Denny. A breath taking thriller exploring the sickness of the human mind.

One man, One room, One miserable existence .

Lighting Tests - Coloured filters - Caitlin and Charlie

Lighting is a very important part of mise en scene, this is because if a film has the wrong lighting it may ruin the mood for the audience and they may be left confused, this is why we have tested some light colour filters so we can create the right mood and ensure that we don't leave our audience confused and leave them feeling the correct mood.

After we have done these test we think that we should use either yellow mixed with a lighter version of the orange to make the orange look more dingy and less bright. However we may use orange mixed with the yellow. We are going to take all 3 colours and see what would look best at the time as we are not sure what it would look like in the room at this present time. We may also use the darker filter as this would make it look darker and we want it too portray a gloomy mood

Pre-Production Planning and Arrangments - Caitlin

Location:
Charlies House, Small room made to look dusky and old. an old TV on a small table so it looks like he lives in this room all the time. We chose Charlies house because there was enough space to film this piece and matched our vision of what we wanted the location to look like. We didn't choose any where else because her house was perfect and we were unable to film in college and well known places because it wouldn't be original, this meant that Charlies house was perfect because it would be an original location and wouldn't be shown in other candidates work. It was also perfect because it has a near bathroom so this works well with the script.

Dates and Times:
Half term, Thursday and Maybe Friday depending on how much we get filmed on Thursday.

Location - Caitlin and Charlie

we have decided to film in charlies house as this is where the story is based, we are going to give the illusion that part of the house is a single mans apartment by using match on actions and soundbridges.
